Five older anime series for beginners.

Since I will soon be reviewing anime and manga for a popular website, I decided to do a quick post about five older series to introduce to fans of newer anime, or even those who are just looking for an introduction series.I made a point to choose each from a different genre so that comparing them to one another would be difficult.I also made sure that they were at least a decade old.I would have gone for much older series, however I just don't see a newbie watching Galaxy Express 999 without falling asleep, or Ranma 1/2 without feeling very confused. No offense to either of those mentioned. They each have merit in either artistic presentation or pure nostalgia depending on who you ask. However, what I am looking to talk about are accessible series with tangible story lines.I want to talk about relatable protagonists and villains that are recognizable as something more than a throwback from a saturday morning in the 80's.

Empirical Data Shows That Harem Protagonists Have Terrible Taste In Women

ABSTRACT

It is commonly assumed by anime fans that the Harem Protagonist, the audience stand-in for socially inept Japanese males, has shit taste in women. Close analysis of any given harem anime reveals that a vastly superior Best Girl is ordinarily present within the harem framework. A question that presents itself is why Harem Protagonists do not simply bang the Best Girl when she clearly displays strong amorous desire for his dick. This systematic study of harem anime shows that Harem Protagonists are genetically encoded with bias towards girls with severe IQ deficit.

Tenchi In Tokyo Review

Hello anime fans!

I purchased today's show back at Connecticon this year, and it was the last show I bought from that con I completed. It was perhaps the most conflicting thing I've ever watched, as it has many good things about it, along with some bad things as well. All together, this created for a fun, weird, and slightly uncomfortable experience. With that said, let's look at the 3rd entry in the Tenchi franchise, Tenchi In Tokyo, and see if it's as conflicting as it's legacy says it is.

Sailor Moon

I've been mulling over the idea of writing a post about Sailor Moon, I recently decided to re-watched all the episodes and movies of Sailor Moon, and while I'm all filled with fuzzy nostalgia. I like probably a decent portion of anime fans can say that Sailor Moon was one of the first (or maybe the first) anime I ever watched (it's kinda neck and neck with Tenchi Muyo! depending on what time I crawled out of bed for school).I can only really remember Toonami being the gateway to anime (it normally had Dragon Ball Z/GT, Crayon Shin Chan (I still
Full Post

Pendant Light: Source Wars

I have never seen the source material for some of my favorite anime, and that is a-OK.

Something that tends to crop up when an intellectual property breaks out into multimedia territory is the matter of where one "starts" with it, or otherwise the concern of what order to view and consume the materials in. That is an entirely reasonable situation to be in, and one I have had to navigate my way through many times over the years. With anime, this can be particularly tricky, given the avalanches of visual novels, manga, random OVA's, light novels, and so on. Knowing where to go if one wants to get into the franchise is a really helpful thing!

15 Anime series that have touched my heart

I was tagged by a good friend mine in Facebook about 15 anime titles that have touched my heart.Well, I can't say that some of them did touch my heart in ways that could move mountains and split the deepest seas, but, they are there for the sheer fact of nostalgia and fond memories I had while watching them. And like the rest of my otaku friends, it's just literally hard to put just 15 when there are a lot to include in this list.

So without further ado, here are my top 15 in no particular order. (on top of my head...after the rules of course...)

THE RULES: DON'T TAKE TOO LONG TO THINK ABOUT IT. FIFTEEN ANIME YOU'VE SEEN THAT WILL ALWAYS STICK WITH YOU. LIST THE FIRST FIFTEEN YOU CAN RECALL IN NO MORE THAN FIFTEEN MINUTES.

Tenchi Muyo: War on Geminar

Forget everything you know about the TENCHI MUYO universe! Well, almost everything. TENCHI MUYO: WAR ON GEMINAR ditches everything relating to Tenchi and his gang of interstellar beauties in favor of a whole new cast of colorful characters and personalities. Up until now, I thought myself done with the TENCHI series and was hesitant to start what I thought to be another retelling of Tenchi's adventures with Washu, Ryoko, Ayeka, Sasami, and the rest. After watching WAR ON GEMINAR, I found my interest reinvigorated and by the end of the thirteen episode show, I found myself wanting more.

WAR ON GEMINAR is another spin off of the TENCHI series set after the very first OVA series, TENCHI MUYO: RYO-OHKI. Tenchi's half brother, Kenshi Masaki, is taken from Earth by a group rebellious thugs who have aspirations of capturing the throne of Geminar away from the newly crowned Empress Lashara. Armed with NEON GENESIS EVANGELION-style robots called Mechanoids, Kenshi is forced to assault Lashara's city ship and assassinate the young girl. Though formidable in combat, Kenshi flees, only to be confronted with execution by his evil masters. Displaying remarkable martial arts skills, Kenshi escapes his captors and falls under the employ of Lashara and her lovely entourage as they reach the Holy Land, a predominantly female academy where the royal elite are trained in Mechanoid combat.

Sasami: Magical Girls Club

Sasami has to be one of my longest running anime crushes, so when I heard she had gotten an entire series to herself I was all over it. Sasami: Magical Girls Club is such a departure from what we know of the character, both in design and personality, it almost doesn't feel like Sasami at all. And, I know a lot of hardcore Tenchi Muyo! fans who boycotted this show all together, and dismissed it as terrible without even watching it. I like this take on Sasami and the Tenchi universe and I feel it's another spin-off to be liked by the fans. Tenchi, as a series, has so many variations and fluctuations in it's storytelling, something like this was bound to happen, and I'm really glad it did.

Taking place in a continuity all it's own, Sasami is the daughter of a male witch and has connections to the Magical World. Eventually, she meets other girls at her school who have different forte's and skills with magic and eventually they team up with their new club mentor, Washu, who is a representative of the Magical World and is there to teach the girls how to use their powers. Aside from being adorable, this show is surprisingly well written, with well-rounded characters. Two seasons long, 24 episodes altogether, this show really does a good job at establishing a world for itself and has a greater depth than you could imagine. The only problem I could really see with this series is that around the second season a lot of the main cast is left almost unused because the plot really starts to focus on Sasami and Misao, so the other magical girls are used almost like background characters. And speaking of background characters, most of the main Tenchi cast appears as just that; aside from Sasami and Washu, no one else is there to contribute to the plot at all. They really were just thrown in as an easter egg for longtime Tenchi fans.
